Ice Palace

Hi there! This week, we are focusing on some adventure writing. If you don't know what that means, even though it's stating the obvious it a type of writing where the character goes on an adventure. Our teachers gave us the opening of the book Ice Palace and carry on the story. Can you give me some feedback on what to improve with these 2 paragraphs here? Thanks.

Turn your face into the east wind, and if you could see forever you would see Ivan’s land. It is a land where time seems to be frozen. A land where bere frosty trees stood still, waiting for the spring breeze that will never come. Blankets of snow cover the green grass like someone hiding their real identity eternally. It hides in the misty fog, like shadows hiding from the light. Overcast clouds linger above the trees like a curse.

Ivan was the first and only to step foot on this mysterious land. He almost disappeared like a memory of someone’s childhood. As if he joined with the shadows and the dark. No one knows what he looks like, only a few knew about his existence. Tales say that Ivan’s spirit watches over this land, causing the never-ending winter.

Reflecting Myself

Today, I made a reflection about myself. It reflects what I did this term and what my next focus is for next term. I hope you'll have a happy holiday.

This Term I am proud of the level I am at right now for geometry, 5b. It means my understanding sanding of geometry is a standard to a year 8 leaving the school. I’m also proud of my artwork I’ve done the past few weeks. Recently, I made Mrs. Dodds a birthday card for her daughter she seemed pretty happy after I gave the card to her. She showed the staff the card and said they were pretty jealous. I hope her daughter has a happy birthday. And I’m proud of not falling over as many time last year. I fell over so many times that Mrs. Spragg was talking about giving me a certificate for the student that falls over many times.

This term, my challenge was learning how to write a newspaper because I turn the newspaper report into a story and make the report less fractal. It was also a struggle to understand how a newspaper is written because my family doesn’t read or watch anything news related. My other challenge was finishing all my work before Friday. This was a challenge because I’m one of those people who want everything to be perfect and changing every detail that I don’t think the teacher would notice. I am improving a bit...  

Another challenge was working with other people. Yes, you might be thinking. “You would be the last person I thought of to not be comfortable with people you don’t work with.” I always pick Mia as a buddy because she’s like a clone of me. Just smaller and every feature is different. What I’m trying to say is that we would always agree on something. But when I work with other people, it doesn’t flow that nicely. So I just agree with what they want to do.

What didn’t go well for me was that I didn’t do that well on my reading test. I only got half of them right. I was a bit scared of showing my Dad the results (don’t worry, he’s not that scary, it’s just that I worry too much). He said it was ok and he said the story got him confused too. I also had an incident when I accidentally hurt a child. I don’t want to talk about it.  

I showed my hero qualities when I tried something new like using water paint instead of drawing with pencils. Water paint is my new favorite thing now. I also tried making a website, it was a lot of fun making the pictures and puns of the website. The funny thing is that our website doesn’t look like a normal website.

Next term, my focus is working on more of my reading and understanding texts.

A Dragon in Auckland?

Dragon Tail's Are Real?!

A creature that breaths swirling fire, flies like the wind roams in New Zealand?! At 2:00 pm in the afternoon, 15th May 2018. A 50-meter high dragon has been spotted terror rising the citizens of Auckland in Chili Street. We have no clue of how a fairy tale has come to life but biologists are now researching. A quote by Nikita Black says this. “I never thought this could be possible. The dragon destroyed skyscrapers and killed hundreds of people. He had blood red scales and eyes engulfed with rage.”

Biologists have found out where the dragon has come from. In Antarctica, there is an outline of the dragon on the ice meaning that the dragon has frozen and preserved the body. Over time the ice started melting freeing the dragon. The military fought the dragon in Auckland. Everyone has evacuated so the military can drop a nuke. Unfortunately, it didn't affect the dragon.

473 people have died and thousands are injured. Most of the city hid in the countryside. A quote by Mark McCray says. “It’s hopeless, half of the city is gone and the military weapons have no effect, not even a scratch. People say no we still have hope but they’re just blinded with happy endings. It’s over for us.”

In the dark ages, there were dragons. So people invented something called ‘The Black Arrow’. Legends say a Black Arrow can break through dragon scales. It may be a legend but, when there’s no more hope, people look for a miracle. Agents were sent to retrieve the arrow in all the castles. Right now they're still looking. If this doesn’t work, nothing will.

A dragon attacked Auckland. Biologists have found out how this happened. Military Weapons do nothing to the dragon. People lost hope and agents are looking for the black arrow that may be the key to the dragon’s demise.
